Principal’s Report
Our School Vision - One team, one mission, striving to provide a safe and effective learning environment where every child is supported to reach their potential.
Dear School Community,
2024 has been a very busy year at Middle Swan PS. Students and Staff have all worked hard and tried their best to ensure every child is reaching their potential. This has been clear in our amazing NAPLAN results where we have punched above our weight across the board. Both Year 3 and 5 students collectively outperformed like schools and far better than school expected to do better than us.
School Development Day
A reminder that there will be a school development day in Term 1 on Monday February 17.

School Open Afternoon
There was a wonderful turn out to our Open afternoon in week 8. Thank you to all of you who attended, and shared with your child, their learning journey and work over 2024. No doubt the cuddly animals, ice creams and sausage sizzle were a hit too but we know how much your children love it when you come to their school.
The sausage sizzle raised $238 which will go straight towards purchasing much needed new books for the library.
2025 Swimming Lessons Schedule
The school does not select the term or weeks that lessons are run. That part is organised by the WA School of Swimming. In addition, next year we will be limited to session sizes of 30 students in the junior primary. That means there will be more bus runs and at a cost to parents. We will endeavour to access more Access to all Areas vouchers in 2025 for families who are finding it difficult to pay for the full cost. The exact cost for term 2 swimming lessons will be sent out to parents early in the new year. Please note the scheduled lessons for 2025.
- Pre-primary to year 3 – Week 5 and 6, Term 2
- Year 4-6 -– week 4 Term 4
6 Seasons Poles
The last touches have been made to our beautiful 6 seasons pole around the yarning circle. Mrs Wong and all the contributing students have done a beautiful job in acknowledging our indigenous people’s culture and making the school culturally inclusive. It has been 6 months in the making but it has been worth it.
Thank you everyone.
Preparing for Bush Fires
Every year the school prepares a plan in case of fire. That plan includes practising evacuation as a whole school which we do at least once a term. Please note the following points in the case of a genuine fire evacuation scenario.
Bushfire Season 2024 - 2025
Please keep in mind the following points if we need to evacuate to a safer place.
- Parents will be contacted via the school app or texted via SMS. Please ensure you have access to the school app tool and your details are correct at the front office.
- Parents are not to ring the school at the time of evacuation. Phone lines are kept free for emergency services and staff will be busy moving children off site.
- Parents are not to collect students during an evacuation procedure.
We wish all our students and their families a wonderfully safe summer holiday. Take care of yourselves and your families.
Kind regards
Frances Coventry

Zoo Excursion
Students from 3.3 and 6.4 attended 'Zoo Fest' at Perth Zoo in November. The children learnt about conservation of western ring tailed possums, the white rhinoceros, and even got to touch some scaly friends.
Thankyou to Mrs Jordan, Mrs Sueter, Mrs Dolting and Mrs B for helping out on the day. It was a fantastic experience for all involved.
Gingerbread House Making
Rooms 4.1 and 4.4 have made some fantastic gingerbread houses. A messy, but fun time was had by all the students.
They sure do look delicious.
